Apple has 'no plans' to upgrade Mac Pro
This is the end of an era.
Recently, Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter that Apple essentially has no plans to upgrade or update the Mac Pro. The current Mac Pro still has the M2 Ultra chip, which has left many wondering when Apple would finally update it with a new chip.
Gurman reported that Apple has stopped work on the M4 Ultra chip, which is why we see the M4 Max/M3 Ultra Mac Studio. This also meant that the update for the Mac Pro with that chip is cancelled, removing much of the hope for a new model. It is suggested by Gurman also that there is no plan to release the Mac Pro with the M5 Ultra chip, set to be revealed for the Mac Studio in 2026.

Gurman says that "from what I’ve heard inside the company, Apple has largely written off the Mac Pro..." which is sure to disappoint many. This signals a increasingly sad decline in right to repair. However, it does not rule out the possibility of a new Mac Pro ever. 9to5Mac also reported recently that "the report doesn’t explicitly say Apple will never release a new Mac Pro," just that a new one is unlikely to come soon. Either way, it is still sad to see the Mac Pro die.
The Mac Pro is a great Mac, but its high price drives away many people and is often seen as unneeded against the Mac Studio. We will have to wait and see what Apple does soon.
