It seems as though browsing is more important than buying.

Recently, various news source spotted a new address pop up for Apple's App Store – apps.apple.com. On first launch, the webpage looks extemely similar to the Mac App Store. The layout is very similar, with the sidebar and columns of apps sharing characteristics. It feels very Apple.

However, upon clicking on any app on the website, you'll notice that the only options are to share the app with someone else, in place of the normal "Get" button. This is because this new website is strictly for browsing, not buying. It is honestly very similar to what they had before. The apps in the app store were able to be found on the web, but this time, it is much easier to find them and you can get to specific apps through search rather than through a direct link.

If you are on an Apple device and the app you are browsing is compatible with your device, you can click "View in ___ App Store" and it will send you straight to the app store.

Some might think that this decisoion to create this App Store website is to streamline the two experiences. While that is certainly true and very helpful to see, another reason could possibly be to lure non-Apple device users to try out Apple's apps and services. If they see what the Apple experience is like, they might be more inclined to switch over.

Either way, the new App Store website is an interesting website, with its interface and with its similarities to the Mac App Store. We will have to wait and see what Apple does soon.
