Apple may allow you to use AI in CarPlay
Do we really need this?
Recently, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman dropped information explaining how Apple may start allowing AI chatbots within CarPlay soon. While this is still a surprise to many, given how reluctant users are to using AI anywhere, especially in a place already with strict guidelines on how phones and devices can be used in the car, it was almost inevitable. It is clear that Apple knows they are late to the game with AI, and they are trying as hard as they can to catch up.

The current Siri button and wake-up command will not be replaced by any other AI bot, just that users will be able to activate AI assistants through opening their respective apps. Developers, however, will be able to design their apps to open the AI assistant's voice mode immediately upon opening the app, simplifying the process. Siri's main functions of controlling music, maps, notifications, and more will all still be there, but the option of using AI for more in-depth searches would also be provided.
It will also be interesting to see what happens when Apple, hopefully, finally releases their fully-AI Siri, and how it competes with these other AI apps. Because of the fewer steps and easier interface of just asking Siri instead of opening a separate app, some users may still just turn to Siri instead of another assistant. However, this may not be all people, and Apple could later allow users to activate the other assistants more easily.
CarPlay is a great interface that adds more features for navigation, messages, and music, and could be getting smarter with AI features. We will have to wait and see what Apple does soon.
