Apple to pay $1 billion to implement Google Gemini into Apple Intelligence Siri
Seems like they are calling in for help.
Bloomberg reported recently that Apple is planning to move forward with Google's Gemini AI to be the backbone of Apple Intelligence, the AI system that Apple created and received a lot of backlash due to late release dates and missed deadlines. Apple, earlier on in the year, was testing many different AI systems including ones from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, and it seems as though Google won. Apple will supposedly be paying around $1 billion per year to Google for their use of Gemini in Apple Intelligence.
The AI model would be custom to Apple's needs and requests, and it will supposedly have over a trillion parameters, which is much higher than the roughly 150 billion of the cloud based Apple Intelligence models of today.

This just goes to show how much farther ahead the other AI systems are compared to Apple. This new system based on Google's Gemini will be extremely complex and hopefully much more powerful and useful than the old Apple Intelligence.
Either way, it is nice to see that Apple cares about fixing their mistakes with Apple Intelligence. We will have to wait and see what Apple does soon
