This is the first of it's kind and it is amazing.

ASUS today has just dropped info about their new 720Hz gaming monitor, a refresh rate unseen in the PC industry yet. While yes, there are other experimental monitors that can go to 750Hz, they use a TN panel type. This means that color accuracy and viewing angles will be terrible in comparison to ASUS'.

This is because ASUS is using a OLED panel which improves on all of the TN panels' downsides – incredible contrast and viewing angles, unparalleled color reproduction, and obviously insanely fast pixel response times and refresh rates. However, the one drawback of OLED panels does not seem to be here – brightness. This is because not only is it using an OLED display, but it is rather using a Tandem OLED display.

First shown off in the M4 iPad Pro (which I have been loving), the Tandem OLED display brings the best of both worlds of previous iPad Pros with their incredibly high brightness and also the contrast and color benefits of OLED by stacking two OLED panels on top of each other to boost the max brightness. If this new ASUS display is anywhere near as good as the one found in the iPad Pro, it will be one of the most incredible displays on the market.

One thing I should mention is that it is 540Hz in QHD mode, and 720Hz in HD mode. This is using a similar 'dual-mode' display tech where you can try out each kind of display benefit and switch back when you like.

Even 540Hz is blisteringly high for the average user or gamer, so 720Hz is cool, but not necessary. We will have to wait and see what happens when it comes to market soon.
