Nintendo ready to retire Switch
It's the end of an era.
In a recent financial report, Nintendo detailed how they are offically ready to retire the development of the Switch 1 and focus all of their efforts on the Switch 2. The report says that "going forward, we will shift our primary development focus to Nintendo Switch 2" and how they will build their business around the Switch 2. This is obviously expected, as it is not sustainable or common for them to maintain both of the consoles at the same time. The Switch 1 has been around for 8 years at this point, so it is probably time for it to go.

It is sad, though, that Nintendo is ending this era of the Switch. It also raises some big questions about if they will continue selling games for it, even if they discontinue the console? What will happen with other consoles like the Switch Lite and the Switch OLED? Will those be replaced by new Switch 2 versions? Does this indicate that they could be replaced soon? It is tough to say, but it is clear that the exit for all of this is beginning soon.
Nintendo did explain that they are still releasing the games that were already in the pipeline for the Switch 1 soon, but just that new ones are not in development. This probably means that it won't be too soon that the Switch is fully retired, but it is getting close. Nintendo says "while taking consumer demand and the business environment into consideration, we will continue sales of Nintendo Switch hardware.
The Nintendo Switch 1 was a great console. It brought a lot of the handheld features to current handheld consoles and revived Nintendo after the Wii U. We will have to wait and see what Nintendo does soon.
