Windows 11 25H2 is out and it changes a long-running Windows Update paradigm
You won't need to check if you are up to date anymore, quite possibly.
Microsoft has officially announced Windows 11 25H2, their 2025 update. It builds on the features of their 2024 update (24H2) but instead of requiring a massive update, it is a so-called enablement package. Microsoft VP John Cable goes on to state that it is no longer the case that one update brings all of the major new features. He describes that we will "continue to see new features released to Windows via monthly updates as part of our continuous innovation model.”

This is somewhat similar to what Apple has done in the past where they will announce small new features for iOS and iPadOS on the iOS X.1 updates. It seems that Microsoft is following suit but even going one step further and removing yearly updates altogether and dropping new features monthly.
This isn't to say that the update doesn't contain any new features. While there are many stability improvements and bug fixes, the biggest updates are in security with improved protections and reduced bloat due to the removal of some older protection features that are legacy now. Another feature that Windows has implemented is AI assisted secure coding, something John Cable also adds. This improves security checks and helps to remove vulnerabilities using AI during software development.
The Windows 11 25H2 update will be a great update that will improve protections for many Windows users across the globe. We will have to wait and see what Microsoft does soon.
